A sinking pedal, a falling fluid level or a soft brake after winter storage often points to a worn master brake cylinder. On the 122 with B18 and a single-circuit system it is extra important to keep an eye on the seals – with only one hydraulic circuit an internal or external leak means the entire braking action can be lost at once, not just front or rear.

The group includes complete master cylinders, repair kits with seals, a brake lamp switch, plus screw, washers and clevis pin for mounting and the pedal rod. Plastilube and grease are used to lubricate the piston and boots during assembly so that the rubber does not run dry.
During a rebuild, common check points are the bore's surface finish, the piston clearance and the return spring – if the cylinder bore is scored or pitted, a seal kit alone is rarely enough.
