Sluggish or sticking throttle response is most often caused by a worn throttle wire, a loose throttle rod or a tired return spring – and on the carburetor-equipped cars a binding choke control can make a cold start troublesome in winter. The controls between the pedal, wire and carburetor/throttle wear with age and become a recurring check during a restoration.
