Volvo 850 Transmission

In the 850, the five-cylinder DOHC engine is mounted transversely and drives the front wheels, which means wear builds up in the clutch and gearbox rather than in a rear driveshaft. A slipping clutch under high load, harsh or jerky shifting, and noise in the driveline are common reasons to dig into these groups. The AWD versions also have a split rear axle with a Delta-link rear suspension, where dedicated parts apply compared with the front-wheel-drive cars.
