Rusty brake pipes, a soft pedal, and a sticking hand brake cable are classic jobs on the 740/760/780. Every variant in the series has disc brakes all around – no drums – so the wear points are in the calipers, discs, pads, and the hydraulic lines. An important turning point is 1988: that's when the front brake was changed from a one-piece cast hub/disc to a two-part split design, which changes which pads and spring pins fit.
