Volvo 850 Cooling system

A rising temperature needle, weeping water beneath the housing, or a tired thermostat that opens too late are common things to check on the transverse 5-cylinder DOHC engine in the 850. Because the engine is mounted transversely, the hose routing and thermostat housing are exposed to heat cycles, and cracks in plastic housings or soft hoses often show up as slow leaks and a need for topping off.

This category gathers parts for the cooling circuit: thermostat housings and thermostats, radiator hoses, radiator caps and the associated gaskets. During a rebuild the thermostat housing is a typical wear point – check for cracks and inspect the sealing surface before fitting a new gasket, and make sure the correct thermostat opening is used for your particular engine variant.

Always compare connections and hose dimensions against your car, as the design can differ between engine variants within the 850 series.
