A sticking throttle cable or a choke control that no longer pulls the carburetor shutter closed are classic complaints on the 544 and 445 – often felt as sluggish throttle response when warm or poor cold starting on chilly mornings. Because the B4B, B16 and B18 are all fed through carburettors (Carter, Zenith or twin SU), the controls are the direct link between the driver's foot, the choke button and the fuel supply, and worn cables make the engine hard to tune correctly.
