A rusted-through rear silencer, a leaking flange at the manifold, or a cracked front exhaust pipe that gives a growling sound are classic reasons to replace parts on the 700 series. Which pipes and mufflers fit is determined by motor and rear suspension – from B230 fours and turbo variants to the B280 V6 and the D24/D24TIC diesels. On the 760/780 the rear suspension type also matters: after the 760 redesign in 1987 came the multi-link rear axle, which changes the exhaust routing and the mounts compared with the earlier solid rear axle. So sort by the correct motor code and multi-link/non multi-link below so that pipe bends, mountings and flange dimensions match.
