Exhaust system Volvo 760/780 (B280E)
Rusted-through pipe joints, a cracked exhaust gasket or a rubber hanger that has lost its springiness easily leads to a rattling system that hangs crooked – common inspection points on the 760/780 with the V6 B280E engine (2,849 cc) in early form without the multi-link rear axle. Wear usually shows up first in the mounts and joints, not in the mufflers themselves.

The wave washers keep tension in the connections so the nuts do not vibrate loose, and new hangers help prevent the pipes from striking the underbody. Always check that the version matches your car – the early solid rear axle affects routing and suspension compared with later 760.
