Exhaust system Volvo 740 (B28F)
Rusted-through pipe joints, leaking gaskets at the manifold and cracked rubber hangers that let the exhaust pipe knock against the underbody are among the most common reasons to look over the exhaust system on a 740 with the V6 motor B28F. It is often the mountings and joints – not the pipes themselves – that give out first, and then it pays to replace seals and fittings at the same time.

During a rebuild the rubber hangers and flange gaskets are typical check points – replace them along with a pipe change so you avoid uneven load on the new joints. Wave washers and lock nuts keep the joints tensioned despite heat movement, and the right brace and clamp give a tight joint without welding.
