An oil leak at the valve cover, a tired engine mount, or uneven compression in the classic B18 often leads to the same round of checks – and that's where the part groups are gathered here by subsystem. The B18B is the short-stroke overhead-valve unit of 1,778 cc with twin SU carburettors, which during production was raised from 100 to 108 and later 115 hp. During a top-end rebuild, the cylinder head, valve gear, and gaskets are typical inspection points, while the lubrication system, oil cooler, and crank assembly belong to the bottom end. The engine mounting's rubber pads (often searched for as engine mounts) are frequently replaced at the same time.
