Important installation information
New cam followers must always be installed when replacing the camshaft.
The camshaft and cam followers must be lubricated with break-in paste (molybdenum disulphide grease) before the first start-up.
For maximum durability, engine oil with a zinc additive is recommended during the break-in period.
The warranty is only valid when new cam followers are purchased and installed at the same time.
The camshaft nut must be tightened to a maximum of 80 Nm and should be secured using Loctite.
Tips when replacing the camshaft
The following components must be removed in order to replace the camshaft:
• Cylinder head
• Front engine cover
• Cam gear
• Fuel pump on carburetted engines
The engine normally does not need to be removed from the vehicle. Once the radiator has been removed, the camshaft can be replaced directly in the car on Volvo PV, Duett, Amazon, P1800, 140, 164 and 240 models.
When removing the front engine cover, the front section of the oil pan gasket is often damaged. We therefore recommend replacing the oil pan gasket at the same time, part number 418262.
This is also a good opportunity to upgrade to a front cover with a radial shaft seal, part number 418693.
Also inspect the camshaft bearings in the engine block. The front bearing is often the most worn and can be replaced without removing the engine from the vehicle.
