The 445 and the later 544 models ran with the B18A and the M40 box right up to 1969, and worn rubber mounts are a typical checkpoint – a tired mount causes vibration and vague shifting.
A simple measure during a full overhaul is to replace the gaiter and o-ring at the same time, since dry rubber is often the cause of both dirt in the mechanism and a sweating oil leak around the lever.
