Oil dripping under the box, howling bearings in the higher gears, or a worn mount causing vibration – these are the classic signs that the M40 gearbox in a 544 or 445 is getting tired. Once it's apart, it's worth replacing the seals and bearings in one go while everything is on the bench anyway.

This group covers the wear and sealing parts such as ball bearings, seals and gaskets to stop leaks, plus rollers, washers, screws and the companion flange that belong to the internal build. The gearbox mount is listed as a separate item – a worn rubber mount makes itself clearly known as rattling and the gearbox knocking against the body.
The M40 gearbox sat behind the B18A in models including the 210/445, which was built right up to February 1969. Since parts and versions can differ between production years, it's smart to check exactly what is in your box before ordering a seal and bearing kit.
