Main shaft M41 overdrive D-type for Volvo Amazon

Knocking ball bearings, leaking gaskets and an overdrive that won't engage are classic signs of a tired M41 in the 544 and 445. This category gathers wear parts for rebuilding the box – from the heavy work inside to the parts you touch from the driver's seat.

The group includes ball bearings, companion flanges and rollers for the internal wear, gaskets and screws for a tight reassembly, plus a gearbox mount that dampens and holds the box in place. For the gear lever there's a gear lever gaiter and gear shift lever knob, which are often cracked or missing on older examples. The M41 is the M40 box fitted with a Laycock overdrive and is based on the same B18 driveline that the 544 and 445 got from the 1962 model-year chassis.
When rebuilding, it's worth checking the ball bearing play and the condition of the gaskets at the same time – an oil leak at the output shaft will happily devour new rubbers if the mount is already soft.
