A hard-to-start engine, rough idle or misfire under acceleration are classic symptoms that should often be traced to the distributor on a B19 or B21. Worn breaker points, a burnt-out capacitor or a cracked distributor cap with a carbon-tracked contact path can all produce a weak or irregular spark.

This group includes the distributor cap, rotor arm, contact breaker, capacitor and retaining spring as well as grease for lubricating the cam – the components that belong in the breaker-controlled ignition system on these four-cylinder OHC motors. During service it is worth checking the contact paths in the cap and the breaker point gap at the same time, since the parts wear together. Always make sure the design matches your distributor, as the 240 series ignition system varies between year and engine version.
