Sluggish, uneven rear brakes and leaking wheel cylinders are classic wear points on the drum brake of an 1800 – often combined with tired return springs and worn brake shoes that no longer center against the drum. Which parts fit is determined by the motor and brake circuit: early B18 cars have a single-circuit brake, while the dual-circuit brake arrived with MY1969 and the B20.

When rebuilding the rear brake, the brake shoes, wheel cylinders, return springs and locking pins are typical inspection points. A worn or missing locking pin lets the shoe rattle against the drum, so it is one of the items you check at every disassembly.
