Rough idle, ignition misfire under revving or a sluggish cold start often begins in the distributor – worn breaker points, a discharged capacitor and play in the distributor shaft upset the timing and make the spark weak. On the B18A/D with the 12-volt system (introduced 1961/62), you want to keep the entire ignition chain in trim at the same time.
