Ignition system Volvo PV/Duett (B18 Bosch)
A hard-starting warm engine, rough idle or noise during acceleration often begins in the ignition system – heat-damaged plugs, cracked ignition cables or a tired coil that loses spark under load. On the B18 with a 12-volt system (introduced 1961/62) the lock washer must be correctly matched, otherwise the cold start suffers and the plugs foul up again.

There are also modern 123 ignition-type distributors for those who want to replace breaker points and the distributor cap with electronic ignition.
During servicing, the condition of the distributor is an obvious checkpoint: check the cap, rotor and breaker gap, and replace worn ignition cables at the same time as the plugs to keep the spark clean throughout the entire rev range.
