Brittle, shrunken rubber grommets let moisture in where the wiring passes through the sheet metal, and a dried-out pass-through in the cowl panel or floor is a common cause of moisture and rust at the ends of the wiring. On the 544 and 210 with B18, the elasticity of the grommets should be checked at every major electrical refurbishment, especially when rerouting wiring or replacing brackets.
