During an overhaul, oil seals and the gasket set are typical inspection points – a dry box bottom and the correct oil level determine how the vent housing and planet gears fare over time. Worn thrust washers and springs in turn affect shift feel and pressure build-up. Always check the design against your box, since the 164 later switched to manual M400/M410 with overdrive.
