Gear box mountings Volvo 164 (M400/M410)
Vibrations in the floor and a wandering gear lever can point to a tired transmission mount – a common wear item on the 140 and 164 with the M400 (and the M410 with overdrive). The rubber hardens and cracks over the years, which is worth checking while the whole driveline is down anyway.

Keep in mind that several fixings on these model years use inch-threaded UNC screws (e.g. 7/16 UNC), so thread and dimension should be checked against the car. The correct mount and a tight joint keep the lever steady and dampen noise against the body.
