A leaking cylinder head gasket, coolant in the oil or uneven compression are classic reasons to take apart the cylinder head on the fuel-injected B30E/B30F. The straight-six in the 164 is considered very reliable, but after many miles the sealing surfaces, freeze plugs and threads may need freshening up – and that's when the right gasket set becomes decisive for the result.

During a rebuild it's worth checking the flatness of the cylinder head and replacing the freeze plugs while the head is off anyway, since otherwise they often start leaking shortly after reassembly.
