A slow cold start, rough idle and hesitation when you hit the gas often begin in the distributor – a worn distributor rotor, a sticking vacuum advance or cracked ignition cables weaken the spark on a B18A. The single-carburetor 1.8-litre engine in the early 140 cars is sensitive to incorrect ignition timing, so the distributor is an obvious checkpoint at every service.
