Wheel bearing kit for Volvo PV, Amazon, 1800

A humming or grinding noise from the rear axle, and perhaps a little axial play in the drive flange, are classic signs of worn wheel bearings in the early Spicer rear axle. On the 544 with the B18, the ENV hypoid axle was fitted early on, but the Spicer version with a 4.1:1 ratio lives on in many cars and requires the right parts during the bearing replacement to get the play correct.

This category gathers service and wear parts for wheel bearings for this specific Spicer rear axle. The group includes shims for setting the bearing preload, seals and washers against oil leakage, grease, gaskets and inspection covers plus screws. Brake drums also belong here since they are removed during the same job.
A typical checkpoint during a bearing replacement is to measure the axial play and build up the correct shim pack before the seal is pressed into place — otherwise you risk new noise or an overheated bearing after only a short drive.
