Heater system/Fresh air unit Volvo PV 444
Cracked air intake hoses, leaking connections and a defroster that can no longer keep the windshield clear are classic signs of a tired heat and fresh air system in the 444. Over time the rubber hoses harden, the gaskets dry out and the thin sheet-metal clamps rust loose, so the warm air never quite reaches where it should.

During a restoration it is worth checking the entire path from the heater core to the defroster outlet – a single leaking hose joint or a stiff gasket is enough to let cold air sneak in and fog up the windshield. Replacing the rubber hoses and clamps at the same time gives a tight and even airflow.
