Hard cold starts, rough idle and a fuel smell under the hood often come down to dried-out gaskets and worn seals in the Stromberg 175CD carburetor. On the Volvo 122 with the B20A engine (single carburetor, 90 hp, from August 1968), it's the rubber and paper seals that age first and start drawing an air leak.
