A rough idle, poor cold starting or sooty spark plugs often trace back to a worn carburetor with a leaking needle valve or worn-out throttle shaft. Which type is fitted depends on the engine: single-carburetor B16A and B18A ran with Zenith and Stromberg respectively, while twin-carburetor B16B, B18B/D and B20 variants used SU units in pairs.
