Heat wears on rubber and cork, and over time the cover starts to drip down onto the manifold and engine side. That is when the sealing surface itself and the fastening parts need to be looked over.

The group includes gaskets and valve cover sets, valve covers – also in chrome-plated finish – plus studs, screws and washers that hold the cover in place. There are also frost plugs, a typical inspection point during restoration since old plugs rust and can start to leak coolant.
When fitting, the flatness of the sealing surface and correct tightening of the studs are decisive – over-tightening deforms the edge and creates new leaks. A complete valve cover set with a new gasket and fresh washers usually gives a dry and durable seal.
