Volvo 700 Hand brake
A hand brake that won't hold on a hill is most often down to stretched hand brake cables, worn brake shoes or a misadjusted mechanism inside the rear brake disc's hub. On the 700 series the hand brake sits as a drum brake in the hub behind the disc, so wear on the shoes and return springs creeps up without showing during an ordinary visual check.
