A binding chokewire or a choke that does not return fully is a common cause of rich running and poor cold starting on the 544 and 445 with the B14A and B16B carburetor engines. The cable often becomes stiff from old grease and rust in the sleeve, and a worn grommet in the cowl can let the wire have play or pull at an angle.

This group includes the chokewire, grommet and grommet set as well as the retainer and wire stirrup that hold the control in place. The mounting also includes the nut, screw and lock washer. Since the B14A and B16B may be built with different carburetor setups – from a single Zenith to twin SU – you should check the cable length and mounting against your existing solution before replacing, so that the routing to the carburetor is correct.
