A stiff or binding chokewire makes cold starts uneven and can prevent the choke from returning fully – a common check point on 544 and 445 with B16A, where the carburetor (Zenith or twin SU) depends on the cable running cleanly. Play in the grommet against the cowl panel or a loosened clamp is often the reason the control loses feel.
