A droning noise that grows with speed, heat at the hub or noticeable play when you rock the wheel often points to tired rear wheel bearings. On the 122 with B18 and the M27 rear axle the preload is set with shims, and a worn seal will sooner or later let grease out onto the brake drum – a classic cause of greasy shoes and uneven braking.
