Brittle rubber hoses, leaking connections or weak fuel delivery are common checkpoints on a 240 with a few years behind it. On the carburetor engine, fuel is fed via a mechanical fuel pump, and with age both hoses and gaskets can begin to weep – something that should be checked before condemning the pump itself.
