Hard hot starts, rough idle or a smell of gas in the engine bay can point to aged fuel lines and a tired pump on the fuel-injected B20E/F. Bosch electronic fuel injection arrived on the B20E as early as 1971, and on a 1974 car it's often the rubber, seals and pressure that give out first.
