Bumpers Volvo 164 (1974-)
Rusty anchorage screws and cracked fasteners are what most often bring things to a halt when the bumper on a late 164 has to be removed or refitted. If the molding sits loose or rattles against the body, it's usually the retainers, guide sleeves and plastic nuts that have given out – not the bumper itself.

During a restoration, the threads in the body anchorage are a typical checkpoint – replace rust-affected screws and flange nuts at the same time so the bumper can be tightened evenly and stays put. New fasteners and guide sleeves let the molding click into place as it should and stop it vibrating against the panel.
