A loose rear axle, knocking from the rear end or rusty mountings are classic reasons to go through the suspension on a 445 or 210. Since the same B18A-based chassis ran all the way through 1969, the mounting points are often heavily torqued and corroded, and they wear with load and road salt.

This group includes the parts that fix and locate the rear axle: cross member, bolts and screw for the mounting, nuts with their lock washers and washers, plus spacer sleeves and bands that keep the components in the correct position. These are typically the kind of parts that need to be replaced together during a restoration – a worn spacer sleeve or a stretched lock washer is enough to cause play and noise.
With an exploded view to hand, it is easy to see how the parts fit together. When disassembling, it is worth checking the threads in the cross member and replacing lock washers rather than reusing old ones, so that the torque holds over time.
