A hard-starting warm engine, a dropping gas level in the carburetor or an oily spot under the mechanical pump are classic signs that the diaphragm or gaskets are starting to fail. On 444/544 and 445 with the small B4B (1414 cc) and B16 (1583 cc), the pump is driven off the camshaft, and over the years the rubber and fibre dry out and begin to leak.

This group includes complete fuel pumps, repair kits with diaphragm and valves, plus wear parts all around: gaskets, copper washers, elbow nipple, fuel hose and anchorage screws with spring washers. The parts cover both replacing the whole pump and rebuilding an existing one.
A common check during installation is to tighten the anchorage screws evenly with a new gasket – uneven tightening causes the flange to leak fuel and draw air, which gives fluctuating fuel pressure and idle problems.
