Cracked trim moldings, worn gear shift lever knobs and missing mounting fasteners are among the things that show up when an early 122 with B16 engine is being freshened up. The B16 is the original engine from the 1956 launch and remained in production until the B18 and the 12-volt system took over in August 1961 – which is why the early 122 cars are the most sensitive when it comes to factory-correct details in the cabin.

This group includes the instrument panel, trim molding and gear shift lever knob together with mounting hardware: screw, nut, fastener, spring washer and lock washer. These are the parts that hold panels and moldings in place and that have often gone missing during earlier disassembly.
A common check during fitting is precisely the mounting washers – spring washers and lock washers that have lost their tension cause panels to rattle and screws to work loose over time. Also make sure the fasteners are seated correctly against the panel holes before the moldings are pressed into place.
