The group includes elastic bands and springs that give the seat its bounce, as well as mounting details such as screws, nuts, washers, spring washers and tag washers. The locking pin is among the parts that hold the suspension and fittings in place during assembly. During restoration it is common to check that all springs are intact and that the elastic bands are not stretched out – a single broken band lowers the whole seat and strains the others.
Bear in mind that the mounting sits in a sheet-metal frame; rusty or painted-over threads mean that the screw and tag washer won't grip, which is worth inspecting before new seat foam is fitted.
