When rebuilding, the seals around the sump and the servo piston O-Rings are typical check points – leakage here often results in low oil pressure and delayed engagement. Also check the control cable and the gear selector's function before condemning the hydraulics, since a sluggish shift may just as easily be caused by a misadjusted cable.
