Gear box details Volvo 240 (M40)

A leaking seal at the output shaft, noise in the bearings or a worn companion flange are classic reasons to open up the manual M40 gearbox in a Volvo 240. Once the housing is split, it's often the small wear parts that decide whether the rebuild will last – and they're gathered here in this group.

This group includes seals and gaskets against oil leaks, ball bearings and rollers for the shaft mountings, safety rings that lock the positions in place, plus companion flanges, screws and washers for reassembly. During a rebuild, the seal against the driveshaft and the inner bearings are typical checkpoints when the gearbox has shown low oil pressure or smooth operation has started to falter.

Keep in mind that the correct gearbox oil and new gaskets should be replaced at the same time as the bearings, so that the sealing is complete after reassembly.
