Brittle rubber in the hoses and a non-return valve that starts letting hot exhaust gases pass back the wrong way are typical checkpoints when the air injection on a 240 with B21A/E is being inspected. The system feeds extra air toward the exhaust side for cleaner combustion, and when a hose or nipple leaks it is often noticed as changed running and early rust attacks where the hot air strikes back.
