Carbon filter Volvo 200 (B21/B23/B27/B28) (1980-84)
A gas smell around the tank or engine bay and hard, cracked ventilation hoses are classic signs that the tank ventilation needs a look. On the 240/260 the carbon filter draws fuel vapors away from the tank, and over the years the rubber dries out, the clamps lose their grip and the nipples start to leak.

When overhauling the tank ventilation, the hoses, nipples, T-nipple, clamps and washers are typical check points, together with the bracket and rubber cap that hold the filter in place. The parts fit the 240/260 with the B21, B23, B27 and B28 engines in model years 1980–84.
A common check point is making sure the T-nipple and hose joints are sealed – small leaks here often cause both odor and hard-to-trace idle disturbances. Always check the hose dimension and mounting against your car, since the design varies between the engines.
