When working with wiring, the grommets are often the first checkpoint: a dry or cracked rubber bushing lets in moisture and allows the edge to gnaw on the insulation. Replacing them at the same time as re-securing the harness with new clamps reduces the risk of chafing damage and short circuits.
Many parts are rubber-based and wear from heat and age, so it is common to renew several in the same operation during a wiring overhaul on the 242.
