Gear shift/Linkage Volvo 1800 (1961-69)

Play in the gear lever, a loose knob or rattling shifting at idle are classic wear points on the 1800 after many miles. Often the fault lies in aged rubber and worn bearing points rather than in the gearbox itself, which makes this a rewarding job to freshen up.

The group includes gear shift lever knobs, gearbox pad, O-Rings and seals as well as mounting parts such as screw, nut, spring washer and tag washer. Here you will also find the flywheel bearing (pilot bearing) that guides the main drive pinion – a tired bearing shows up as noise and stiffness when disengaging the clutch.

When a worn gearbox pad is replaced, much of the vibration that travels up into the lever disappears, and new O-Rings together with correctly tightened mounting parts remove the side play. These parts gather what is needed to restore a tight, precise shifting feel on the 1800 with a manual gearbox.
