Steering Idler arm Volvo 444/445 (B4B/B16)

Play in the steering wheel and wandering steering on a straight road can point to wear in the steering linkage, and the idler arm is a common inspection point alongside the Tie rod and Tie rod end. On the 444/445 with the B4B/B16 engine it sits in the linkage of the Ross and Gemmer steering box respectively, where a tired bearing and dried-out seals should be checked during a rebuild.

This group includes parts for fitting and sealing the idler arm: grease nipple, Nut, O-Ring and Gear Linkage Gaiter, plus nut, cotter pin, Spacer sleeve 444/445 B4B/B16 and Tag washer. When removing it, it is worth replacing the Gear Linkage Gaiter and O-Ring right away, since otherwise penetrating moisture quickly wears out the bearing again. Because parts and design can differ between early and later 444/445, the fit should always be checked against the car's specification before replacement.
