Steering gear Volvo PV 444 (Ross) (1947-53)

Play in the steering wheel, a stiff steering feel or oil leakage around the steering box are common checkpoints on the early 444 with the Ross worm-and-nut steering worm, which came in various versions and can differ between model years. When the worm is adjusted or sealed, it is the small mounting and sealing parts that are often missing or worn.

This group includes the screw, nut, spring washer, spacer and washer that belong to this particular steering worm. Many nuts and bolts on these model years use UNF threads (for example 7/16"-20 UNF), so check the thread standard before ordering. Spacers are used to take up play during adjustment, while the copper washers seal against oil leakage. The parts apply to the 444 from 1947–53; the fit is governed by the chassis number and version, so check which version your car has.
