Starter Volvo PV/Duett (B4B/B16)
Sluggish cranking, a clicking solenoid or a starter motor that can't quite turn the B4B over on a cold morning can come down to worn brushes and a poor earth just as easily as the motor itself. On the 444 and early 544 with B4B and B16 respectively, the starting system runs on 6 volts up until the 1961 switch, which makes clean earth paths especially sensitive – every contact resistance costs cranking power.
