A binding hand brake, a leaking brake cylinder or a brake drum with deep grooves are classic checkpoints when the rear brakes on an early 122 need freshening up. On the B16 cars there are drum brakes at the rear all the way, and since these run a single-circuit system a tight hydraulic system is extra important – the smallest leak can affect the entire braking feel, which makes the brake cylinder well worth inspecting carefully.
