Bluish smoke under acceleration after idling and rising oil consumption usually stem from worn valve guides and hardened valve seals – classic check points when the cylinder head on a B200 starts to show its age. The four-cylinder OHC engine of 1,986 cc also develops wear in the seats, which shows as uneven compression and a poorer idle.

This category gathers parts for the valve side of the cylinder head on 740/760/780 with B200. The group includes exhaust valves and inlet valves, valve guides and valve seals, valve spring washers and valve adjustment shims (spacers for clearance setting), as well as timing belt and belt cover. During a head overhaul it is common to replace guides and seals in one go while the cover is off anyway, and to take the opportunity to inspect the sealing surface of the valves. The adjustment shims come in various thicknesses so the valve clearance can be set precisely during fitting.
